Drawing & Talking Therapy

Drawing and Talking is not intended to fix problems or gain an understanding of why certain behaviours or feelings are arising. The intent is to provide the child with a consistent, non-judgemental and non-intrusive space within their week to start processing the emotions they are feeling for themselves.

What is Drawing & Talking?

Drawing allows people to express, in symbolic form, dreams, wishes, desires, worries and thoughts that are often so deeply set within our minds that we are not even aware of them ourselves.

Alongside a trusted, consistent and loyal professional these symbolic forms can be unlocked from our subconscious and the emotions attached to them can be processed safely.

This is done through playful, relaxed and non-intrusive questioning about the story surrounding a picture the child has drawn.

Who is it for?

Drawing and Talking is a non-cognitive intervention making it the ideal option for children who struggle to explain how they feel or for those who find communication difficult.

It is proven extremely successful for young people with Autism or ADHD as well as those who have suffered any type of trauma. This includes experience of bereavement, loss, separation, asylum, adoption, being a looked after child, amongst many other forms. Drawing and Talking is also very effective for children with anxiety.

Notebook

How does it work?

  • 12 sessions - total £360

  • 30 minutes each

  • Same private and confidential space each week

  • Same time each week

There is no requirement to be able to draw well and mistakes are welcomed! In fact, they are encouraged!

The child does the drawing. I hold the space - providing a safe environment of acceptance where they will never be asked "why?".
